Link Tracking

Link tracking lets you see when a recipient clicks a hyperlink in your email — including which link they clicked, which email it was in, and what device they used. Use this to prioritize follow-ups based on engagement.

When a tracked link is clicked, Yesware's server is pinged with the IP address and you receive a click notification.

tip

Name your links rather than leaving them as raw URLs (e.g., use "our website" instead of "www.yesware.com"). This reduces the chance of your message being flagged as spam.

  1. Click the Yesware dropdown in the top left corner of Gmail
  2. Select Preferences
  3. Go to the Tracking section
  4. Toggle on Track Links

Once enabled, any hyperlink you insert is automatically converted to a trackable link. You can verify a link is tracked by hovering over it — if the destination includes https://t.yesware.com/tl..., it's being tracked.

  1. Open a compose window and click Open Sidebar in your ribbon
  2. Select the Insert Tracked Link tab
  3. Fill in the fields:
    • Text to Display — the word or phrase to hyperlink
    • URL — the destination link
    • Title — optional text shown when the recipient hovers over the link
tip

Links added to Templates are automatically set up as tracked links.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do my links look like t.yesware.com?

Yesware rewrites your URL to a tracking domain (t.yesware.com) to capture the click event before redirecting the recipient to your original destination. The recipient lands on your intended page — Yesware just records the click in between.

Can I track links in a plain text email?

Yes, but HTML format is recommended. In plain text, the full tracking URL (http://t.yesware.com/...) is visible to the recipient, which can look suspicious.

Does link tracking affect email deliverability?

Occasionally, aggressive spam filters may flag tracking links. Using descriptive anchor text (e.g., "Click here" or "Visit our site") instead of raw URLs helps improve deliverability.

Can I search for emails in the Tracking Feed in Outlook?

The Activity Feed does not currently have a search option. To find activity for a specific email, use Outlook's search bar or your Sent folder to locate the thread, then click on it and select the Message tab in the Yesware Sidebar to view its tracking history. You can also search the Tracking Report directly.

Why isn't link tracking working?

Verify a link is tracked by hovering over it — if the destination includes https://t.yesware.com/tl..., it's being tracked. If not, link tracking may not be enabled.

Gmail: Go to Yesware > Preferences > Tracking and toggle on Track Links.

Outlook: Use the Insert Tracked Link tab in the Yesware Sidebar to insert tracked links manually.
