Gmail Troubleshooting
If Yesware isn't working as expected in Gmail, start by checking the Yesware status page. Subscribe to updates so you're notified of any ongoing incidents.
If there's no status to explain the issue, follow the steps below.
Step 1 — Send a Test Email
Send a tracked email to test@yesware.com. Then check your Tracking Report to see if an open event appears within a few seconds.
- If events appear in the Tracking Report but you're not seeing notifications in Gmail, the issue is with your browser or notification settings — follow the steps below.
- If no events appear in the Tracking Report, tracking isn't being applied at all — skip to Tracking Not Being Applied.
Notifications Not Appearing (Tracking Is Working)
Check pop-up notification settings
Go to Yesware > Preferences > Notifications and make sure Event Notifications is toggled on. Click Save & Reload.
Check for conflicting Chrome extensions
Go to chrome://extensions/ and remove any extensions with similar functionality to Yesware, including:
- Other tracking tools (Boomerang, Hunter, EmailTracker)
- Pop-up blockers (Adblock, Adblock Plus, Ghostery)
- Outreach tools (HubSpot, Salesforce)
- Antivirus add-ins (McAfee, Norton)
Log out and back into Gmail after removing any extensions.
Check cookie settings
- In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Cookies
- Toggle Block third-party cookies to Off
- Make sure
yesware.comis listed under your Allow tab - Refresh Gmail
Clear cache and local storage
Clear cache:
- Go to
chrome://settings/clearBrowserData - Set time range to All Time and check: Cookies and other site data, Cached images and files, Hosted app data
- Click Clear Data and refresh Gmail
Clear local storage:
- Go to Chrome menu > More Tools > Developer Tools
- Click the Console tab
- Next to the
>symbol, type:localStorage.clear()and press Enter - Close Developer Tools and refresh Gmail
Gather console logs for support
If the issue persists, send console logs to support@yesware.com:
Browser console logs: Chrome menu > More Tools > Developer Tools > Console — copy or screenshot any errors.
Background console logs: Go to chrome://extensions/, enable Developer Mode, click Inspect views on the Yesware background page — copy or screenshot any errors.
Tracking Not Being Applied
Check that tracking is enabled
Open a compose window and confirm the Track checkbox is checked at the bottom. If you don't see it, go to Yesware > Preferences > Inbox and toggle Compose Toolbar on. Click Save & Reload.
Check for conflicting extensions
Follow the same steps as above to remove conflicting Chrome extensions.
Update Chrome
Go to chrome://settings/help and confirm you're on the latest version. If not, update and relaunch Chrome.
Clear cache, local storage, and reinstall Yesware
- Uninstall Yesware from
chrome://extensions/ - Clear cache and local storage using the steps above
- Reinstall Yesware from yesware.com/install
- Restart Chrome and sign back into Gmail
If the problem persists after all steps, contact support@yesware.com with your console logs and a description of the issue.
